Our growing law firm invites competent bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates to apply for a Bilingual Legal Assistant position. The ideal candidate will have completed at least 2 years of college, have good communication skills in both English and Spanish, and must be comfortable communicating with clients, court personnel, and government officials. Preference given to applicants with experience in the immigration field.

We are in search of a person with proven initiative, office skills who is a team player, able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and willing to grow with our firm. Position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, using common office equipment, calendars & e-mail. Excellent writing skills are a must.

PLEASE NOTE: The interview will be partially conducted in Spanish & English; if your Spanish & English proficiency is not at least at this level, this position will not suit you.

Job Summary:

The Legal Assistant for the Citizenship, AOS, and SIJ-SAPCR, CPS Department at Ponce Law Firm plays a critical role in supporting attorneys with cases related to Citizenship, Adjustment of Status (AOS), Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJ) - SAPCR, and CPS. This position involves assisting with case management, document preparation, client communication, and administrative duties. The Legal Assistant will contribute to the smooth handling of immigration cases while ensuring all legal documentation is accurate and complete.

Key Responsibilities:

Case Assistance:

  • Assist attorneys in preparing, organizing, and managing documents for Citizenship, AOS, SIJ-SAPCR, and CPS cases.
  • Maintain and update case files and databases with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Conduct research on immigration regulations and policies under attorney supervision.
  • Communication with case parties in CPS cases
  • Monitoring of filed applications

Client Communication:

  • Communicate with clients to gather required information and provide updates on case status.
  • Schedule client appointments, interviews, and court dates.
  • Draft client correspondence and legal documentation under attorney guidance.

Document Preparation and Legal Research:

  • Assist in drafting legal documents, forms, petitions, and affidavits.
  • Assist in drafting motions and orders for CPS cases
  • Conduct legal research and provide summaries to support case preparation.
  • Proofread and review legal documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.

Administrative Support:

  • Provide general administrative support, including filing, data entry, and organizing materials for court appearances, hearings, and meetings.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for client meetings, court proceedings, and hearings.
  • Perform other legal and administrative tasks as needed to ensure smooth case management.

Learning and Development:

  • Stay up to date with changes in immigration law and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance legal knowledge and skills.
  • Receive ongoing feedback and guidance from attorneys and senior legal staff to improve performance.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong interest in immigration law and social justice.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).
