Missional University invites applications for an online staff position as the University Librarian responsible for the development and expansion of the university's electronic, online library resources. Applicants must have prior experience as a seminary or Christian university librarian. Applicants must have a strong understanding of the relationship between the library and the missio dei in Scripture. Applicants must be conversant in current missional literature and thought.

Since Missional University is dedicated to training grassroots missional leaders in the evangelical tradition, administrative staff and faculty members must commit to both our faith and ethos statements. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Responsibilities and Duties

The role of the University Librarian includes:

  • Developing online library resources from across the globe including books, journals, newspapers, theses & dissertations, video & audio, and other primary sources.
  • Developing multilanguage online library resources from across the globe, particularly in Spanish, French, German, Hindi and Mandarin Chinese.
  • Developing and Maintaining links to open access resources
  • Negotiating relationships with library database vendors
  • Developing and maintaining subject guides correlated with Missional University curriculum
  • Developing and maintaining specialized resources in coordination with academic deans and the faculty
  • Developing and maintaining Missional University's digital repository of both faculty and student theses and dissertations
  • Developing and maintaining Missional University's digital collection of historical missional resources
  • Developing and maintaining Missional University's digital media commons
  • Providing library services including teaching and learning support, digital scholarship services, archives and special collections

Qualifications and Skills

  • MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of professional library experience, preferably in a seminary of Christian university
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the evolving and changing cataloging standards and practices.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with online technologies and basic web development.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working interculturally and transnationally
  • A vibrant Christian testimony
  • Practical intercultural/international missions experience in North America or beyond
  • Agreement with the faith and ethos statements of Missional University
  • Passionate about the mission, vision and core values of the Missional University
